About the role

As the leader of Council’s Mechanics team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of mechanical repairs and maintenance across our diverse fleet of motor vehicles, plant, and equipment. This is a dynamic leadership opportunity where your technical expertise and people management skills will directly contribute to the smooth operation of essential services. You will direct the work and activities of your staff and ensure that the team consistently works to meet its targets and commitments against their individual or team work or performance plans.

In this role, you’ll be the go-to problem solver for fleet and plant-related issues, working collaboratively to deliver timely and practical solutions. Your leadership will foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and teamwork, ensuring our fleet remains reliable, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Remuneration

$89,346.40 - $102,197.16 + 12% Superannuation + Access to Motor Vehicle Leaseback

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications 

Essential Criteria  

  1. Trades certificate in automotive engineering.
  2. Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Council Trades licence (MVRIC) & eligible to be a Proprietor of a mechanical workshop.
  3. RMS Authorisation as an examiner for the registration of Council’s plant and equipment. 
  4. Extensive experience in the repair and maintenance of a wide range of vehicles and plant.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team and its functions to achieve required outcomes.
  6. Demonstrated computer proficiency.
  7. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with staff, suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders.
  8. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  9. Understanding and commitment to equal employment opportunities, diversity, work health and safety, ethical practice and acting with probity at all times.
  10. Current NSW Class HR Driver’s Licence.
  11. Current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.

Desirable Criteria: 

  1. Local Government experience.
  2. Knowledge of, and experience in using fleet management software.
  3. Experience and knowledge of electric vehicles (servicing and maintenance)
  4. Knowledge and experience in council procurement processes
