Expression of Interest (EOI) for Council Sub-Committee Customer Service

Are you passionate about working with Council to improve service delivery and the resulting community experience?

Consider representing your Inner West Council community on a special interest sub-committee focused on Customer Service.

Council is seeking expressions of interest from Inner West Council residents who would be interested in volunteering on a newly established Council sub-committee for Customer Service in 2022-2023.

Council is looking for individuals who have:

  • A passion for great community/customer service
  • Previous experience serving on a similar committee
  • High levels of personal integrity and ethics
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of local government
  • Sufficient time available to devote to responsibilities as a sub-committee member, and
  • Independence and freedom from contractual arrangements with Council.

Sub-Committee membership and role

We are here to be of service to the community and make Inner West a great place to be. Sub-committee members are expected to demonstrate a commitment to Council’s values in performing their role.

Council sub-committee membership provides the opportunity for interested community members to contribute their unique perspective and expertise with a view to enhancing Council’s service to the community. 

Sub-committee members will serve as a reference group and advocacy body to Council on opportunities for service improvement.

The sub-committee will comprise of three elected Councillor representatives, four representatives from the community and Council officials.

Sub-Committee Scope

The purpose of this sub-committee is to:

  • provide feedback to Council on any issues or areas of concern the community experience in accessing Inner West Council’s services
  • provide a reference mechanism for Council to seek community feedback on service improvements.

Time Commitment

It is expected the sub-committee will ordinarily convene once a month, in the evening for a period of up to two hours, for a limited term (expected to be December 2023).

Selection Criteria

Applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to meet the selection criteria listed below:

Essential Criteria:

  • Resident of Inner West Local Government Area (LGA)
  • Knowledge and understanding of what makes up a great customer experience
  • Have good knowledge and understanding of key issues facing LGA residents
  • Ability to work in a team environment to support others and develop and maintain strong working relationships (e.g., with other sub-committee members, Council officials, and other stakeholders)
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Have experience analysing and developing service improvements
  • Prior experience of participation as a member on local or state-wide committees
  • Have strong community links.

Remuneration

This sub-committee work is voluntary and unpaid.
