About the role

The Inner West is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic individual to join Council’s leadership team as Development Assessment Manager.

In this critical role you will lead, supervise and coordinate the activities of the Development Assessment Section to ensure the team consistently works to meet its targets and commitments against their individual or team or performance plans and Council’s Operational and Strategic Plans.

Drawing on your extensive experience in development assessment in local government, you will be responsible for:

  1. Effective management of a team; undertaking development assessment services ensuring the timely day-to-day management of Pre-Development Applications, Development Applications, Section 4.55 Applications, Section 8.2 Review Requests etc.
  2. Oversee the delivery of high-quality advice to customers and key stakeholders through:
  • Pre-Development advice
  • General planning enquiries
  • Education forums including information on Council’s web page.
  1. Management of the operations of various planning and specialist planning panels such as the Inner West Local Planning Panel and Architectural Excellence and Design Review Panel.
  2. Increased level of customer satisfaction with the performance of the Development Assessment Section.
  3. Individual and team performance management and development.

You will play an active role as part of the leadership team, delivering a high standard of development assessment and control to achieve a quality urban environment with the Inner West Local Government Area.

Remuneration

$166,566.20 p.a. to $184,696.55 p.a. - Total Remuneration Package

Total remuneration package is inclusive of base salary, super, reasonable overtime, allowances and access to an IWC leaseback vehicle scheme

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications 

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, Architecture, or related discipline
  2. Extensive experience in development assessment in local government particularly in NSW and the social, political, legal and regulatory frameworks in which it operates.
  3. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team and its functions to achieve outcomes that address current challenges in a changing environment for the Council and its commitments to the community.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to and ability to deliver and embed a culture of excellent customer service within a team and in accordance with Council’s values framework.
