Community Representatives for Inner West Local Planning Panel

Inner West Council is seeking community representatives to become members of its Local Planning Panel (LPP). The LPP determines development applications for local development in the Inner West LGA. There is a high volume of applications dealt with by the Inner West LPP that is diverse and interesting.

The LPP consists of 3 independent state appointed experts and 1 representative from the local Inner West community.

Inner West Council is seeking expressions of interest from a mix of people who live locally and have a good understanding of the LGA and issues of concern to the local community to join our pool of community representatives. Community representatives perform an important role, injecting local understanding and a community perspective.

Inner West Council encourages expression of interests from all candidates. Council is committed to reconciliation and strongly encourages Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and mature aged workers to apply.

The successful community representatives will be placed on a roster and will be required to attend approximately 6 meetings a year. This is a part time, paid role (renumerated in accordance with rates set by NSW government) commencing in February 2027. Membership of the LPP will be for up to 3 years.

Community representatives must be a resident of the Inner West LGA, be 18 years of age or older and be an upstanding citizen with links to the local community but, must not undertake any work in the Inner West LGA that may conflict with their role on the LPP.

Community Representatives must have an understanding of development concepts and environmental issues: the ability to gauge the community’s attitude to all forms of development and, at the same time, an ability to balance the rights of the applicant.

Successful community representatives will bring knowledge to the LPP through their long-term connection to the community and current network within the community.
