About the role

As a Library Customer Service Assistant, you’ll play a key role in delivering welcoming, high‑quality library services to our community. You’ll be the friendly face at the service desk, supporting customers with borrowing and enquiries, assisting with library activities, promotions and programs, and helping to keep our library spaces vibrant and well organised.

This hands‑on role involves working on the library floor across both branch and neighbourhood libraries, engaging directly with customers of all ages and backgrounds. You’ll collaborate with colleagues, participate in team meetings and contribute to activities that enhance the overall library experience.

Inner West Libraries are currently trialling extended operating hours at Marrickville Library to provide greater access and flexibility for the community. The revised operating hours are:

  • Monday: 9:00am to 7:30pm
  • Tuesday: 9:00am to 8:30pm
  • Wednesday: 9:00am to 8:30pm
  • Thursday: 9:00am to 10:00pm
  • Friday: 9:00am to 5:30pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9:00am to 7:00pm

As a casual library employee, you will work across any of our 8 Inner West Libraries to gain experience across a range of diverse libraries and communities.

Remuneration

$32.25 p.h. - $37.35 p.h. + 25% Casual Loading + 12% Superannuation

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications 

  1. Higher School Certificate or equivalent and willingness to obtain library or information qualification
  2. Proficient computer and technology skills
  3. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public and a proven commitment to custom er service
  4. Ability to work and plan effectively as an individual and as a team member
  5. Ability and willingness to promote and deliver activities and displays to all the libraries customers
