About the role

The Environment and Sustainability Group is responsible for strategic and annual planning and implementation of programs, projects, operations, and policy for the Inner West Council to deliver the outcomes and goals of the Community Strategic Plan.

The Urban Sustainability Team is responsible for community and corporate action to realise a more sustainable and livable inner west. The team responds to all areas of sustainability strategy and program development including corporate sustainability strategy and systems, community, business and schools partnerships, innovation and behaviour change.

The Environment Officer (Temporary, Community Sustainability) is responsible for organising and delivering program activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to find creative solutions to urban sustainability issues. The role will work collaboratively with others including staff, community members, groups, and businesses.

This Officer will engage directly with colleagues, community and other staff to advise them, support sustainability outcomes and contribute to the development and evolution of the program. They must demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to represent Council and its environmental priorities confidently and accurately.

Some after-hours attendance at meetings, workshops, committees is required

Remuneration

$32,930.35 to $38,491.23 + 11.5% Superannuation + Other Entitlements

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications 

  1. Tertiary qualifications, or current enrolment in a tertiary course in a relevant field.
  2. Excellent communication skills, including good interpersonal, digital media and written skills.
  3. Strong organisational and project management skills.
  4. Ability to organise and deliver activities, meetings, workshops, and resources for diverse audiences.
