About the role

The Resource Recovery Planning Team influences the avoidance, reuse, recycling, recovery, and disposal of materials generated from the IWC area. Resource Recovery Planning is responsible for developing and implementing the Inner West Zero Waste Strategy and moving materials previously treated as waste up the waste hierarchy to become valuable resources. The goal is to work towards zero waste and to embed circular economy principles. This team works closely with the Resource Recovery Services Team which delivers waste services and manages IWC waste operations.


The Coordinator Resource Recovery Policy, Procurement and Reporting and direct reports are responsible for the development of action plans, policy, development application waste referrals, financial modelling, fees, and charges, managing data, procurement of waste disposal and processing contracts, reporting for residential and commercial waste services provided by Council. They will work closely with the Manager Resource Recovery Planning, the Resource Recovery Services Team and Environment and Sustainability.


The Resource Recovery Officer – Apartments will;
1. Complete waste referrals for multi-unit development applications
2. Provide advice on policy development and amendments
3. Manage contacts and records for apartment buildings.
4. Inspect new developments
5. Plan and coordinate bin delivery for new developments
6. Build relationships with social housing providers, strata, caretakers, cleaners, and residents to facilitate best practice management of waste and maximize avoidance, reuse, and recycling.
7. Undertake any other tasks and resource recovery projects as directed by the Manager Resource Recovery Planning.


You will manage the work and activities of your position to consistently work to meet targets and commitments against your performance plans and Council’s Operational and Strategic Plans. You will collaborate and support on team objectives where needed and facilitate partnerships across Council and help solve problems and resolve issues and model achievement of goals and commitments.

Remuneration

$82,325.88 to $96,228.08 + 11.5% Superannuation

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications 

1. Degree qualifications in environmental science, or relevant field of study and/or experience.
2. Demonstrated capacity to manage multi-disciplinary projects, with a strong record in planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating projects.
3. Sound knowledge of current waste management legislation and regulations, challenges, and opportunities.
4. High standard of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including public presentation and meeting skills and the ability to prepare reports.
