About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated leader to join Inner West Council and manage our diverse range of facilities. This is a rare opportunity to work on aquatic facilities and harbour pools one day, and state significant or cutting-edge buildings the next. 

The Facilities Management Manager leads and coordinates the Facilities Management unit which includes Facilities, Trades Operations and the Trades Workshop teams. The unit is responsible for undertaking operational and maintenance activities at all Council properties to ensure property is managed to maximise the benefit to Council, the community and facility users. The position will collaborate with customers, stakeholders and users to provide a high level of service balanced by budget, need and asset management planning.   

Working as part of the Infrastructure Directorate and reporting directly to the Director Infrastructure, you will be a part of a high performing leadership group. You will use your proven leadership skills to manage activities in a strategic and asset management mindset, and be engaged with your staff to ensure that the team consistently works to meet its targets and commitments against their individual or team work or performance plans and Council’s Operational and Strategic Plans.  

You will provide strong, values-based leadership and inspire, coach and develop staff, facilitate partnerships across Council and help solve problems and resolve issues in a proactive manage, and model achievement of goals and commitments.

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications 

  1. Appropriate tertiary qualification in building/property management or similar field. 

  1. Experience in facilities management across a diverse range of building uses (eg aquatic centres, libraries, child care). 

  1. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team and its functions to achieve outcomes that address current challenges for the IWC and its commitments to the community. 

  1. Demonstrated financial management and budgetary experience.

  2. Demonstrated experience in building asset management 

  3. Demonstrated skills and experience in procurement, project management and contract management.
